doweshowbellyad=0; HERE I AM: Kunal Kapoor (TOI Photo)It’s the intense Aslam of Rang De Basanti he’s most remembered as. But actor Kunal Kapoor tells Piali Dasgupta he’s willing to try anything as long as it’s exciting I’ve replied to all the messages from my female fans wanting to know where I’ve disappeared... They’ll soon see a lot of me now; I have two releases lined up.
It wasn’t a conscious decision to take a break after
Rang De Basanti. It’s just that there have been big breaks in between my films. But I can take up a project only when something in it excites me, I can’t work for the sake of working. It’s pointless to spend six months of your life doing something that doesn’t excite you.My next two films, Laga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle, will see me doing something I’ve not done before... My roles in these films are very different from the intense Aslam of RDB. They’re fun characters. The kissing scene in Laga Chunari Mein Daag... It was just like doing any other scene. Konkona and I share a great comfort level since we have worked in two films back-to-back. It was freezing when we shot that scene in Switzerland and we had some 20 people staring at us. We were also losing light, so we had to do it quickly. I’ve no issues with kissing in films, provided the script demands it.I consider myself lucky to have bagged two Yash Raj projects so early in my career... I had to go through tests and they liked what they saw. But they also chose me on the basis of my performance in RDB.I don’t think Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra will cast me in Delhi 6... But I want to be part of anything that he does, even if it means standing in a crowd and waving at the camera.Working with Jaya Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit has been an absolute delight... Your performance improves when you work with stalwarts. It makes your job easier since you’re mostly reacting to them. I’m a huge Madhuri fan, and the ten of us on the sets of Aaja Nachle became great friends — something that doesn’t happen very often. As for Jaya Aunty, she gets food from home, and it’s great fun. I’d love to do a good action film... I don’t believe I’m in any mould. When you enter the industry people slot you in various categories to suit their convenience.I prefer box office success to critical acclaim... Critical acclaim is also important, but I’d rather have ten million people watching my film than four critics praising my work.I’m also in the process of writing a script with my friend... Hopefully it will be made into a film some day. I love writing and have new-found respect for writers since I’ve realised that writing isn’t an easy job. Since I’m full of ideas, I don’t suffer from writer’s block. Or maybe it’s just beginner’s luck.I’m into fitness... I gym four times a week, and have started doing Pilates. Hrithik also gives me a lot of tips. But I’m comfortable with my lean frame. As for my long hair, I’m glad people have accepted it. I’m lazy and can’t bother much with my hair. But I’m ready to experiment with my looks as and when roles demand that.I don’t like to party... I believe in hitting the sack early and getting up early. I’d rather watch a film with friends. I used to party when I was younger, but not anymore. Besides, by the time you’re out of a disc you’ve lost your voice.Am I single? No, since I’ve a multiple personality disorder. So I’m always in the company of three to four people. But, jokes apart, I’m single. It’s not like I don’t have time for a relationship. But it’s also about finding the right one.
